What started as a personal solution to manage his burgeoning video production business soon sparked a creative journey into the world of digital product creation.

In this interview, Albert shares his transition from student to digital entrepreneur, exploring how Notion not only streamlined his life but also inspired a successful venture into the world of Notion templates.

Q: How did you first discover Notion, and what drew you to it?

A: In 2020, while I was still a student, I stumbled upon Notion on YouTube. I began using it to organize my studies, and its versatility really impressed me . Now, I rely on Notion to manage both my video production house and personal life.

Q: What inspired you to become a creator (to create templates)?

A: In the video production industry, certain periods like Christmas or New Year get really busy with marketing campaigns and video ads for many companies. However, during the off-season, I find myself with more free time. I use this downtime to explore other income streams. I choose to sell digital products because they have lower maintenance costs in terms of both funds and time. It’s also a good source of passive income. Even when the video production industry picks up again, I can still manage my digital product business with less time investment.

Q: What does a typical day in your life look like?

A: I’m not one to stick to a strict routine like many other Notion Creators. Due to the nature of my work, I don’t have regular waking up and sleeping times. Sometimes I wrap up filming shows at 4 AM, and other times I’m up at 4 AM for wedding filming. It’s hard to keep a healthy routine with this kind of schedule.

Q: How did you develop the “Life RPG” template, and what are its core features?

A: I’ve divided the development process of LiFE RPG into 3 chapters.

Chapter 1: Idea 💡 

The idea for this product came to me one sleepless night, with a thought: 

💭 : “We often do things we don’t like. So, why not make them fun?” 

I delved into all the information about gamifying work and life, 

and stumbled upon a book called “Actionable Gamification.”

Chapter 2: Product 📦 

I spent 1.5 months developing the product and opened up a Beta version. 

Luckily, I received applications from 70 people willing to become beta testers. 

From them, I selected 20 professionals and 10 amateurs. 

I received valuable feedback and spent another 0.5 months refining the product.

Chapter 3: Marketing 📢 

I dedicated a month to preparing 2 videos and a landing page for the product and released it on YouTube. This effort resulted in over 600 waitlist sign-ups and several pre-orders.

Q: Can you describe the impact of gamification on personal productivity, as seen in your “Life RPG” template?

A: Gamification makes tasks more engaging by adding elements like challenges, rewards, and progress tracking. This increased engagement maintains personal motivation, fostering a desire to complete tasks and achieve goals. Breaking down larger tasks into smaller, more manageable objectives or levels with gamification helps us understand what tasks need completion and how their efforts contribute to overall progress. It also provides real-time performance feedback and progress tracking, tracks their achievements, identifies areas for improvement, and adjusts strategies accordingly, leading to more effective use of time and resources.

Q: How do you balance simplicity and functionality in your template designs?

A: After completing the template, use it for 2 weeks, create tutorial documentation and launching the beta version for users. During this process, I identify issues and find a balance between these 2 important elements.

Q: What advice do you have for someone looking to enhance their productivity using Notion templates?

A: Everyone has a different approach to working efficiently, many concepts proposed by productivity experts don’t work for me. Finding a productivity method that suits you, choosing a highly customizable Notion template, and tailoring it to match your workflow as much as possible can be beneficial.

Q: What’s your favorite way to relax or destress?

A: My life is pretty much all about work, family, and partner. I don’t really have activities for relaxation. Work keeps me super busy, but as humans, we need to relax and unwind, so I need an efficient and simple way to destress. The Wim Hof Method is a highly effective way to destress. Just take 5 minutes in a quiet environment, and focus on your breathing to eliminate negative emotions.

Q: Are there any upcoming projects or templates that you’re particularly excited about?

A: In the near future, I don’t have any “BIG” plans. Since I just finished the LiFE RPG project, I needed some time off. During this period, I’ll be working on simple templates to complete my template library for personal use, such as Journal Tracker, Mood Tracker, and so on.

Moving forward, I plan to create templates for business use. I believe a Video Production House system would be a great idea. Plus, I don’t need to start from scratch, I can modify my current system to make it more user-friendly.
